NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State's Courtney Pence was named to the Missouri Valley Conference's All-Tournament team, following the completion of league's tournament Saturday at Redbird Arena.
Missouri State (28-5) won the tournament Saturday, defeating Northern Iowa (26-8) in a three-set title match victory.
Pence was solid for Illinois State (21-12) in both the Redbirds' matches at the MVC Tournament. The junior libero topped 30 digs in both the Redbirds' matches, going for 32 in Illinois State's win over Valparaiso Thursday before tallying 33 in a loss to UNI on Friday.
For the weekend, Pence averaged 8.12 digs per set, while adding 10 assists, two aces and a kill. In Thursday's match, Pence broke Illinois State's single-season digs total, upping her season count to 787 and surpassing the previous record of 732, held by Emily Orrick (2014).
Illinois State will await its postseason fate on Sunday, as the announcement of the NCAA Tournament and National Invitational Volleyball Championship fields will begin at 8 p.m.
