MVC Champion 1996-97 and 1997-98 Men’s Basketball Teams Honored

NORMAL, Ill. – Twenty-two Illinois State men's basketball alums – along with their families and friends – returned to campus for an RB4L (Redbird 4 Life) event which honored the 1996-97 and 1997-98 Missouri Valley Conference regular-season and MVC Tournament championship teams Feb. 11.

The 1996-97 and 1997-98 teams were honored at a pregame reception in the Hancock Stadium and on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena during halftime of the Feb. 11 Bradley at Illinois State men's basketball game.

Those from the 1996-97, 1997-98 teams in attendance included:
Kyle Cartmill, Rob Gibbons, Joe Hein, Ben Holmstrom, L. Dee Murdock, Kenneth Pierson, Sean Riley, Skipp Schaefbauer, Dan Short, Jamar Smiley, Nic Stotler, Leroy Watkins and ISU head coach Dan Muller.

Other men's basketball letterwinners in attendance included:
Tarise Bryson, Matt Coates, Steve Danielson, Rod Harrison, Gene Jontry, Chad Mazanowski, Roger Powell, Dave Schertz and Bruce Stone.

The 1996-97 and 1997-98 Illinois State men's basketball teams were the most recent squads to play in the NCAA Tournament, with the 1997-98 team earning a first-round, overtime victory over Tennessee.
