NORMAL, Ill. – After hosting its home opener last weekend, the Illinois State women's gymnastics team will travel to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, to face Central Michigan Feb. 5, beginning at 1 p.m.
"The team has been focused on consistency and eliminating deductions for Sunday's meet against Central Michigan," head coach Bob Conkling said. "Central Michigan has a strong team again this year, and our entire team will need to come in with confidence and keep it throughout all four events.
The Redbirds took second in last weekend's meet with a score of 192.000, and UIC took first with a score of 192.425. Sophomore Meredith LaRoche placed second in the all-around competition with a score of 38.525, thanks to her third-place finish on the balance beam with a score of 9.700.
Freshman, Gabrielle Cooke placed third in the all-around competition with a score of 38.250, aided by her score of 9.850 to finish in first place on the floor. Madison Solka was right behind Cooke, with a score of 9.750.
Central Michigan is coming off finishing in fifth place at the NCAA regional with a score of 194.675, aided by a score of 9.800 on the vault by Karlee Teet who tied for ninth, and Taylor Bolender who tied for ninth on balance beam with a score of 9.850.
"I still believe we are a much better team than what we have showed in competition this season," Conkling said. "We will pull it all together this weekend to hit solid routines on all 4 events."
