First Round Results
DALLAS, Texas – The Illinois State men's golf team completed its opening round Tuesday at Oral Roberts' Bob Sitton Invitational, but three of the 24 teams in the field did not finish play at the par-71 TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas. The Redbirds are currently in second place, after shooting a 1-over-par 285 to trail first-place Long Beach State by one stroke.
Junior Jason Marrs carded a career-low 1-under-par 70 (37-33), as he fired a 2-under-par 33 on the back nine, which included three of his five birdies in the round. He currently sits in a tie for sixth place on the individual leaderboard.
Sophomore Trent Wallace continued his hot play by shooting an even-par 71 (38-33), as he fired a 2-under-par 33 on the back nine a well, which included two birdies and seven pars, placing him in a 12th-place tie.
Freshman David Perkins and senior Christian Crabill rounded out the scoring for Illinois State, as the duo both shot 1-over-par 72s. Perkins shot an even-par 36 with a pair of birdies on the front nine, before collecting one more birdie on the back nine while shooting a second-consecutive 36. Crabill fired a 1-under-par 35 on the front nine with three birdies and finished with a 37 on the back.
Junior Zach Burry shot a 4-over-par 75 (37-38), but his score did not count towards the team's total. He recorded one birdie in the round.
"We had a very solid team effort to start the event, but we know there is a long way to go, and tomorrow is a new day," head coach Ray Kralis said. "I am very proud of the guys for staying focused and patient despite some struggles at Florida State and South Alabama, and I am not surprised by the way they bounced back. We have competitors on this team with some fire inside, and we've been in this spot multiple times as a squad last fall. Those experiences will be an asset as we continue play tomorrow."
The Redbirds will continue play Wednesday with the second round, as all five student-athletes will tee off from 10 a.m. - 10:36 a.m. The tournament concludes Thursday, March 16, with the third and final round.
