NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Illinois State baseball team seeks a winning record over its longest road trip of the season as the Redbirds conclude their annual spring break trip with a weekend series at Lipscomb, beginning Friday at Ken Dugan Field.
The three-game series will mark the end of a stretch in which the Redbirds will have played eight games over 10 days. The Redbirds took two of three games at Western Kentucky last weekend and split a two-game, midweek series at Tennessee Tech, giving Illinois State a 3-2 record over the road trip so far heading into this weekend's games.
Illinois State (5-9) currently has four players batting over .300, in Owen Miller (.369), Jordan Libman (.364), John Rave (.320) and Noah Sadler (.304). By going 3-for-4 in Tuesday's game at Tennessee Tech, Miller recorded the 100th hit of his Illinois State career, in just his 67th career game.
The Redbirds will use the starting pitching rotation of left-handers Matt Walker (1-0, 1.50 ERA) and Brent Headrick (0-1, 8.10) on Friday and Saturday, respectively, before right-hander Brady Huffman (1-0, 1.69) starts on Sunday.
Lipscomb (8-8) will counter with the rotation of Brady Puckett (2-2, 4.39), Jeffrey Passantino (0-0, 2.31) and Dayton Tripp (2-0, 5.00). All three are right-handers.
