Redbird Baseball Hosts Home Opener Tuesday

The Bo Durkac Show

NORMAL, Ill. – After playing its first 21 games away from home, the Illinois State baseball team will host its first game of 2017 season at Duffy Bass Field Tuesday when Saint Louis visits for a nonconference tilt. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Admission to Tuesday's game, and all Illinois State home baseball games this season, is free. The game will also be broadcast live on ESPN3, as part of The Valley on ESPN3.

Illinois State (6-15) returns to action after a three-game series with Xavier over the weekend in Cincinnati, Ohio. The home team won two of the three games, all of which were decided by two or fewer runs.

Saint Louis (17-5) most recently won two of three games in a weekend series with St. Bonaventure at SLU's Billiken Sports Center. The series marked the beginning of Atlantic 10 play for the Billikens, who were picked to win the league in a preseason poll of league coaches.

Illinois State owns a 39-22 edge in the all-time series with Saint Louis, although the Billikens won last year's meeting, 5-4 in 14 innings, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Illinois State will look to junior right-hander Jeffrey Barton (0-1, 2.45 ERA) to start Tuesday's contest. Saint Louis has tabbed freshman right-hander Garret Acton (0-0, 5.14) its starter.

Tuesday's game will be broadcast live on ESPN3, and links for live video, audio and stats are available at GoRedbirds.com, and fans can follow @RedbirdBaseball on Twitter for live updates and more.
