BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois State men's tennis team earned a 4-2 win over Saint Louis Saturday evening at the Blooming Tennis Center, improving the squad's record to 5-9.
Saturday's match featured wins from Dylan Steffens, Andreas Boers, Matias Chomali, Peter Foersom and the doubles team of Boers and Egehan Sertkaya.
"It was certainly nice to get a win after all the setbacks we had," said head coach Mark Klysner. "We're not completely healthy yet but it was a great fight from the guys today."
Saint Louis claimed the doubles point as David Ferragut and Juan Calero defeated Steffens and Urh Krajnc Domiter, 6-0. Oscar Pachon and John Nogalski beat Chomali and Foersom, 6-3. The pair of Boers and Sertkaya came back to sweep Justin Nogalski and Paarth Dodhiawala, 6-0.
In singles, Krajnc Domiter fell to David Ferragut, 7-5, 6-4. Steffens beat Juan Calero, 7-6, 6-4. Boers outshined John Nogalksi, 6-0, 6-1. Chomali defeated Oscar Pachon, 6-2, 6-3. Foersom topped Justin Nogalski, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The Redbirds will head to DePaul on Friday for a 6 p.m. match. After a matchless day on Saturday, ISU will travel to Charleston to compete in a doubleheader against The Citadel and College of Charleston on Sunday.
