Redbird Baseball Hosts Western Illinois in Midweek Clash

The Bo Durkac Show

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State will host in-state foe Western Illinois Tuesday in midweek action at Duffy Bass Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Illinois State (11-27, 1-8 MVC) returns to action after going 1-2 in a weekend series versus Bradley at Dozer Park. The Redbirds lost the series opener and finale, but secured their first league win of the season with a 9-4 victory over the Braves on Saturday.

Western Illinois (14-23, 10-8 Summit) took two of three at Fort Wayne over the weekend, and the Leathernecks have won five of their past six contests.

Illinois State will start right-handed freshman Jack Bellinger (0-0, 6.35 ERA) on Tuesday. Western Illinois will go with left-hander Pete Minella (1-0, 6.23).

Tuesday's game will mark the first meeting of Illinois State and Western Illinois since 2014, when Illinois State won three of five games split between Normal and Macomb, Illinois.

Illinois State owns an 87-75 edge in the all-time series with Western Illinois. The Redbirds have played the Leathernecks (162 games) more often than any other school, with the exception of: Bradley (218), Indiana State (185) and Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois (173 each).

All Illinois State home baseball games feature free admission. Tuesday's game will be broadcast on ESPN3, and links for live video, audio and stats are available at GoRedbirds.com, and fans can follow @RedbirdBaseball on Twitter for live updates and more.
