Redbird Baseball Set For Pair of Midweek Games

The Bo Durkac Show

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State baseball team will return to action with a pair of midweek games after beginning Missouri Valley Conference play over the weekend at Dallas Baptist.

Illinois State (7-18, 0-3 MVC) will host Valparaiso (9-16, 1-5 Horizon) on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Duffy Bass Field. Tuesday's game – and all Illinois State home baseball games – feature free admission.

The Redbirds will then travel to Northwestern (8-18, 0-3 Big Ten) for a game Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park in Evanston, Illinois.

Illinois State returns to Duffy Bass Field after being swept in a three-game conference series at Dallas Baptist over the weekend. The Redbirds held leads in all three games – all of which were tied or the Redbirds led in the sixth inning – but the Patriots scored 20 of their 28 runs in the series in the sixth inning or later to secure the sweep.

Tuesday's game against Valparaiso will mark just the second home game of the season for the Redbirds. Illinois State won its home opener last Tuesday, defeating visiting Saint Louis by a 2-1 margin.

The Redbirds will turn to left-hander Colton Johnson (1-2, 4.26 ERA) to start Tuesday's game. Valparaiso will counter with right-hander Grant Inman (3-2, 5.06). Starters for Wednesday's game have not yet been determined.

The midweek games come before Illinois State hosts a three-game nonconference series with Dayton (9-16, 1-5 A-10), beginning Friday. The series with Dayton marks the beginning of an eight-game homestand over 10 days.
