NORMAL, Ill. – Last week, passionate Redbird fans gathered to raise funds for the women's athletics programs at Illinois State at the annual 'Bird Bash' inside Redbird Arena.
The event, which was presented by the Weisbecker Scholarship Fund (WSF) and Illinois State Athletics, recognized and celebrated the hard work and dedication of Redbird women student-athletes and raised funds to support their efforts. It was hosted by emcee Katy Winge, a 2015 ISU graduate and former women's basketball standout that is currently pursuing her master's degree at Northwestern.
Over 400 loyal and generous Redbird fans were in attendance and were treated to food from Moe's Southwest Grill and beverages by Sodexo. When the final tally was added, over $45,000 was raised by those in attendance for the women's athletics programs at ISU. Since 2006, the annual fundraising event has raised over $390,000 for ISU women's athletics programs.
"We want to thank everyone who participated in Bird Bash 2017," ISU Associate Athletics Director for Development Matt Lyons said. "It was another incredible success, and we're so grateful for the dedication of our 50 amazing captains, our remarkable auction committee, and the investment from Moe's Southwest Grill and Sodexo. This event has a tremendous impact on women's athletics at Illinois State, and we can't thank everyone who participated enough for their support. It truly makes a difference for our student-athletes and coaches."
