NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State baseball team hosts Missouri Valley Conference foe Indiana State in a three-game weekend series, beginning Friday at Duffy Bass Field.
Friday's opener is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch, and will be followed by games on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
All Illinois State home baseball games at Duffy Bass Field feature free admission.
Illinois State (12-31, 1-11 MVC) returns to action after a thrilling, come-from-behind win over visiting Milwaukee Tuesday night at Duffy Bass Field. Big performances at the plate from Ryan Hutchinson and Noah Sadler helped the Redbirds overcome a four-run deficit, and Illinois State won it in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the ninth on Owen Miller's bases-loaded single to left field.
Indiana State (21-20, 7-5 MVC) enters this weekend's series on a three-game winning streak after sweeping Bradley in a three-game series last weekend at Bob Warn Field in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Illinois State and Indiana State opened the 2017 season in a rare nonconference meeting at the Riverview Inn Governors Challenge in Clarksville, Tennessee, which Illinois State won by a 17-7 score in the Redbirds' highest-scoring game of the season.
Illinois State has tabbed right-handers Brady Huffman (3-3, 3.83 ERA) and Jeffrey Barton (0-2, 4.91), and left-hander Matt Walker (0-1, 9.35), as its starting pitchers for the weekend series. Indiana State will go with right-handers Tyler Ward (3-2, 3.30) and Will Kincanon (4-4, 4.68) on Friday and Saturday. The Sycamores' Sunday starter has not yet been determined.
Indiana State owns a 103-82 edge in the all-time series between the two teams. Illinois State has faced Indiana State more than any other team in its history, with the lone exception of Valley foe Bradley (218 games).
