NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's soccer team (0-2-1) was unable to come up with the equalizer Friday night as they fell, 1-0, at Saint Louis (3-0-0).
The Redbirds held the Bilikens to a scoreless halftime. ISU continued to hold them until the 73rd minute when SLU was able to find the back of the net from the corner of the 18. With eight saves in the second half, sophomore keeper Haley Smith surpassed her career-high of nine saves when she notched 10 and 11 in the last five minutes of regulation.
ISU was outshot by SLU 6-21, and 3-12 in shots on goal. Junior Angel Krell led the Redbirds with two shots while goal-scorer Maddie Pokorny led the Bilikens with six.
The Redbirds are back in action this Sunday, when they return to Adelaide Street Field for their anual 'Pack the Pitch' game against Illinois. The match will also be a celebration of 25 years of women's athletics in the Missouri Valley Conference, with all of Redbird Soccer's trophies and achievements on display as well as a world record attempt at half time.
