Redbirds Draw in Double Overtime at Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Illinois State women's soccer team (2-4-2) got their second draw of the season in a scoreless, double overtime draw at No. 19 Marquette (7-1-1). The Redbirds return home Sunday for their first match at Adelaide Street Field in three weeks.

The Redbirds came out guns blazing, outshooting the Golden Eagles 10-3 in the first half. Opportunities continued to present themselves as they continued their offensive dominance in the second half, outshooting Marquette 21-13 to end regulation and 5-3 throughout double overtime. Sophomore goalkeeper Haley Smith was tested only six times between the pipes and 10 Redbirds recorded at least one shot each throughout the match.

Junior Angel Krell led the Redbirds with seven shots, five of which were on goal. Seniors Kelli Zickert and Emily Dickman were close behind with five and three shots, respectively. A trio of freshmen, Jessica Denney, Ashley Santos, and Natalie Vaughn-Low recorded two shots each.

The Redbirds return home Sunday, September 17 for their first match at Adelaide Street Field in three weeks. Sunday will be the annual Heidecke Day for Redbird Soccer and also Reggie's Kids Club Day. ISU takes on Miami (Ohio) (0-6-0) at 1 p.m.
