ST. LOUIS – Illinois State's Courtney Pence has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second-straight week, the league announced Tuesday.
Pence, a junior libero from Springfield, Illinois, was named to the all-tournament team at Saint Louis' Marcia E. Hamilton Classic over the weekend, marking her second-straight week earning all-tournament team honors. Pence averaged 7.18 digs per set over Illinois State's three matches at SLU, while adding 13 assists and a pair of aces.
Pence recorded her best performance Saturday against Kennesaw State, tallying 36 digs in the match, a total tied for the sixth most in a match in program history.
Pence currently leads all Division I players with 7.45 digs per set.
Illinois State will host its first matches of 2017 next weekend, as the Redbirds welcome Cincinnati, Dayton and Seton Hall to Redbird Arena for a round-robin tournament.
