TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Illinois State swimming and diving team fell short against Indiana State in a dual meet Friday night, 164.5-135.5.
Several Redbirds won individual events on the night. Kierston Farley-Sepe led the Redbird swimmers, earning first in the 200- (2:04.23) and 100-yard butterfly (57.52), as well as the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.39). Following Farley-Sepe was Jensen Keck, capturing first in two events, the 100- (1:04.92) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.07).
"Overall, we are happy with how the team performed this evening," said head swimming coach Scott Cameron. "It was a hard-fought meet all the way through, and we had some impressive swims throughout the meet. There are a lot of things to take away from this meet to help us improve going into next weekend."
Multiple Redbirds also earned second-place finishes Friday night. Molly Hill finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (58.95), while Mary Kate Tillotson took second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.89). Haley Rivera took second in the 200-yard IM (2:10.40).
Caroline Leceour led the Redbird divers in the 1-meterdive, finishing first (253.28), while Emily Aument followed in second (245.02). Leceour also took second in the 3-meter dive (256.57).
"For the first meet of the season, I was very pleased with the performances today from the divers," said head diving coach Phil Hoffmann. "Coming on the road, against a strong group of divers is never easy. We have things to work on, not to be satisfied, but it's a good foundation to build on."
The Redbirds remain on the road for another conference dual next weekend, when they compete at Southern Illinois at 1 p.m. on Oct. 20. Illinois State will also face Illinois in the double dual.
