Davis Earns Third MVFC Newcomer Honor Of The Season

ST. LOUIS – For the third time this season, Illinois State junior quarterback Brady Davis has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week by the league office.

Davis was joined by UNI quarterback Eli Dunne (Offense), North Dakota State safety James Hendricks (Defense) and punter Brady Hale of South Dakota State (Special Teams) as this week's MVFC honorees. Davis previously earned MVFC Newcomer of the Week honors after strong performances in back-to-back wins over Saint Xavier and Eastern Illinois.

The transfer from Memphis tied a career-best with four touchdown passes in the 51-3 Homecoming victory over Southern Illinois. With over 400 yards gained on the ground by Redbird backs, Davis was not asked to do much through the air but completed 10-of-15 passes for 118 yards with the four scores. The quartet of touchdown passes tied his career-best, set earlier in the season in a win over Eastern Illinois, and he now has 14 on the season with just one interception. The Columbus, Mississippi, native also picked up several first downs on the ground, with a long run of 25 yards in the contest.

No. 12 Illinois State (5-1, 2-1 MVFC) hits the road this Saturday to take on No. 1 North Dakota State (6-0, 3-0 MVFC) in a crucial MVFC matchup at the Fargodome. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m., and the game can be seen on ESPN+ and heard on WJBC AM 1230 and 93.7 FM or the TuneIn app.
