Six Redbirds Collect Post-Season Honors from MVC

The Illinois State women's soccer team had six Redbirds earn All-Missouri Valley Conference honors, the league announced Thursday at the annual women's soccer banquet ahead of the championship, hosted by Loyola Chicago.

Kate Del Fava and Abby Basler were named to the All-MVC First Team, while Kiley Czerwinski earned All-MVC Second Team honors. Mikayla Unger and Ashley Santos were recognized with an All-MVC Honorable Mention, and Shaina Dudas was named to the MVC All-Freshman Team. The awards were voted on by the conference's eight head coaches.

MVC All-Conference First Team

  • Abby Basler, R-So., MF (St. Louis, Mo.)
    • Basler leads most offensive statistics for the Redbirds, sharing the lead for most goals this season with Del Fava at five and posting a team-high four assists. After redshirting last season, the St. Louis, Missouri, native has 14 points on the year, as 11 of those were earned in the last five games.
  • Kate Del Fava, Jr., MF (Kenosha, Wis.)
    • The junior midfielder has played in every single match since she stepped foot on Illinois State's campus in 2016. Del Fava is a force to be reckoned with in the midfield, starting in every game and averaging 83 minutes per match this season while netting five goals and dishing out three assists.

MVC All-Conference Second Team

  • Kiley Czerwinski, Sr., MF (Naperville, Ill.)
    • A menace in the midfield, Czerwinski started in all 18 matches she played this season, scoring two goals and dishing out two assists.

MVC All-Conference Honorable Mention

  • Ashley Santos, So., MF (Naperville, Ill.)
    • Santos played and started in every match this season, averaging over 86 minutes per match, and tallied two assists in her sophomore campaign.
  • Mikayla Unger, Jr., F (Fort Wayne, Ind.)
    • Unger has two assists and three goals this season, with two of her goals being game winners. Unger played in all 20 games this season, starting in 14.

MVC All-Freshman Team

  • Shaina Dudas, Fr., F (Elk Grove Village, Ill.)
    • The freshman forward has had a fantastic 2018 campaign, scoring three goals and serving up two assists. The reigning MVC Newcomer of the Week played in all 20 games this season, starting in 15, while averaging over 72 minutes per match.

UP NEXT: No. 4-seeded Illinois State takes on top-seeded Loyola in the semifinals of the MVC Soccer Championship tomorrow in Chicago. Kickoff at Loyola Soccer Park is set for 6 p.m. Earlier this season, the Redbirds upset the Ramblers, 3-2, in overtime in Chicago. Illinois State is the only MVC team to defeat them this year.
