Illinois State Closes out TYR Invitational with Strong Performances

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Illinois State swimming and diving teams had several impeccable performances on their last day competing at the TYR Invitational in Evanston, Illinois, on Sunday. Through event 50 of the meet, Illinois State was set to come in at fourth out of seven teams.

Getting things started for the Redbirds was Caroline Lecoeur, who opened the meet with an impressive performance in the platform diving event, capturing a record score of 166.80.

"It was a great way to end our last diving event with a new 5-dive platform record for Caroline (Lecoeur)," said head diving coach Phil Hoffmann. "I was happy overall with the progress all of the divers showed this weekend. We are excited for the back half of our season, as we know great things are ahead."

The 100-yard IM had a lot of Redbird action, as Julie Kolar came in fourth place with a time of 58.82 in the final round. Jensen Keck competed in this event, breaking a school record with her preliminary time of 58.78, before finishing fifth in the finals with a time of 58.85. Keck also captured a seventh place placement out of 34 athletes in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.56).

Impressive performances were seen from Kierston Farley-Sepe in the 50-yard fly, turning in times of 25.53 and 25.23 in the preliminary and final rounds, respectively, finishing second in the event for the Redbirds. Farley-Sepe clocked in the fourth-fasted time in the 200-yard fly, with a time of 2:03.41.

Morgan Rosser pushed in the 1650-yard freestyle (17:25.18), finishing ninth out of 29 athletes, while Morgan Clark was successful in capturing a third place finish in the 50-yard fly with times of 25.49 and 25.26 in the preliminary and final rounds, respectively.

"It was a great day for us and we finished out the meet with some great swims," said head swimming coach Scott Cameron. "We asked a lot of our athletes this weekend, and they stepped up all over the place today. I'm really pleased with our progress so far this season, and I'm excited about the work left to put in as we start getting ready for the second half of our season."

Illinois State will kick off the month of December at the Indiana State Relays on Saturday, Dec. 1, beginning at 12 p.m.
