WACO, Texas – It has been quite the week for Illinois State junior running back James Robinson and he capped it off with another prestigious honor, as he was named to the 2018 AFCA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Coaches' All-America Second Team announced Friday by the association.
The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. Each of the teams are chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best, the coaches themselves. Robinson was one of six Missouri Valley Football Conference standouts named to this year's list.
The All-America honor is the fourth for Robinson following a stellar 2018 season. The Rockford, Illinois, native was previously named a second-team All-America selection by HERO Sports FCS and STATS FCS and also picked up third-team honors from the Associated Press. Â
Earning All-MVFC First-Team honors for the second-straight year, Robinson led the MVFC with 1,290 rushing yards and tied for second in the league with 12 rushing touchdowns during the regular season. He averaged 117.3 yards per game and 6.3 yards per carry and posted a pair of 200-plus yard rushing performances. Robinson recorded six 100-plus yard rushing efforts and scored multiple touchdowns in four contests throughout the season. He was named MVFC Offensive Player of the Week, after rushing for a career-best 256 yards and two scores in the season finale versus Youngstown State (Nov. 17) and ran for 202 yards and a score against Southern Illinois (Oct. 13).
A 2018 STATS FCS Walter Payton Award finalist, which given to the outstanding offensive player in college football's Division I subdivision, Robinson heads into his senior season ranked fifth in career rushing yards (2,545) and rushing touchdowns (26) at Illinois State.
