TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Illinois State men's golf team currently sits in sixth place after shooting a 4-over-par 580 over the first two rounds at Florida State's Seminole Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,172-yard Southwood Golf Club. Host Florida State currently leads the 14-team field with a 20-underpar 556. Five teams are currently under par for the tournament.
Junior Trent Wallace fired a 2-under-par 70 in the first round, and repeated with a 2-under-par 70 in the second round. The junior shot eight birdies and two eagles on the day to currently sit in a tie at fifth place on the individual leaderboard.
Sophomore David Perkins shot an impressive 3-under-par 69 in the first round, followed by a 1-over-par 73 in the second round to sit in a tie at 16th-place on the individual leaderboard. The sophomore tagged on nine birdies throughout the first two rounds.
Junior David Rauer produced the third-best score for the Redbirds with a 2-over-par 74 followed by a 1-over-par 73. Rauer included nine birdies in the first two rounds to sit at a tie at 33rd on the individual leaderboard.
Senior Zach Burry shot a 5-over-par 77 in the first round with three birdies and finished the second round with a 4-over-par 76. Senior Jason Marrs trialed right behind Burry with an 8-over-par 80 in the first round, followed by a 2-over par 74 to wrap up the second round. Marrs shot two birdies and one eagle to conclude the first day of the tournament.
"Trent & Dave were catalysts for us, and overall, the guys battled and never let up," head coach Ray Kralis said. " The highs and lows of the day were close to balancing each other out, but we feel like we have our best round still in us."
The Redbirds conclude the tournament Sunday morning with the third and final round beginning at 8:15 a.m. CT.
