NORMAL, Ill. – Right-handed pitcher Morgan Day was named to the Missouri Valley Conference's All-Tournament softball team, as voted on by the league's coaches after the conclusion of the 2018 MVC Softball Championship at Buel Field in Des Moines, Iowa.
Day led the Redbirds in the circle at the championship tournament, pitching eight innings in Illinois State's 4-3 10-inning crusade with UNI in the opening round to advance to Friday's quarterfinal match-up against Southern Illinois, where the Tuscola, Illinois, native pitched a complete game versus the Salukis.
In the Redbirds' opening round game against the Panthers on Thursday, Day gave up eight hits with just two earned runs, while walking a pair in Illinois State's seventh extra-inning game of the season. The freshman returned to the circle on Friday and tossed a complete game in Illinois State's hard-fought 2-0 setback to Southern Illinois. Day struck out six Salukis, while giving up six hits and two runs with just a single intentional walk.
Day finished the season with a team-best 3.22 ERA to go with 94 strikeouts – the fifth-most in a single season by a Redbird in program history. She pitched a team-leading 12 complete games with four shutouts and a pair of saves in 141.1 innings pitched.
