NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State head men's basketball coach Dan Muller has announced that Abdou Ndiaye, a native of Louga, Senegal, and who played most recently at The Nation Christian Academy, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Redbirds in the 2018-19 season.
"I couldn't be more excited about adding Abdou to our program," said Muller. "Abdou got his start in organized basketball at the prestigious SEED Academy, located in Thies, Senegal. His dramatic improvement these past few months under the coaching of Coach Woody at The Nation Christian Academy helped show the incredible potential he has as a player. Abdou is a player that will be able to play three or four positions as he continues to work and develop. He is a wonderful young man and will contribute greatly to our program and community."
He averaged 27.2 points and 14 rebounds and four blocks per game in a partial season at The Nation Christian Academy in Saint Lucie West, Florida. Ndiaye came to the United State in the summer of 2016 from Senegal's SEED Academy, which helps identify talented young players. He attended The Masters School in Westchester, N.Y., before transferring to CGM Prep Academy Arizona for half of a year.
In his first game at the Masters School, Ndiaye had a 21-point, 14-rebound, and 12-block triple double, as his team won 46-28. He averaged 22 points per game at Masters School for the season.
Ndiaye joins fall signee Rey Idowu in the two-person freshman class, and the pair will team with Zach Copeland, Matt Chastain, and Josh Jefferson as newcomers on the Redbird squad in 2018-19. Two others, Jaycee Hillsman and Dedric Boyd, will also join the Redbirds this season, but will be sitting out due to the NCAA Transfer Residency requirement.
