NORMAL, Ill. – Former Illinois State shortstop Owen Miller has been named a Third Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings. Miller, who set the Illinois State single season hits record, recently made his professional debut, going 1-for-4 at the plate with an RBI double for the Tri-City Dust Devils, an affiliate of the San Diego Padres.
First recognized in 1949, the ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans are selected by the ABCA All-America Committee.
Miller led the Redbirds by batting .384 during the season, while also stealing a team-high eight bases. He was second on the team in runs (45), and had 15 doubles, six home runs, 35 RBI's, and a slugging percentage of .537. His 88 hits on the season set the single-season school record.
He was drafted in the third round of the MLB draft, taken with the 84th pick by the San Diego Padres.
