NORMAL, Ill. – Former Redbirds Brock Stewart and Jeremy Rhoades reunited, as the prior teammates squared off against each other in Oklahoma City on June 13 as Rhoades' Bees won 4-3.
Stewart started for the Oklahoma City Dodgers going three innings giving up four hits, two runs, and striking out two batters. Rhoades did not play.
Stewart has split time between Triple-A and the MLB this season. In the MLB, Stewart has appeared in eight games with two starts posting a 5.60 ERA over 17.2 innings. In Triple-A, he is 1-0 with six starts posting a 2.55 ERA fanning 24 batters while walking nine.
Rhoades started the year in Mobile, Alabama as part of the Los Angeles Angels Double-A squad. Rhoades went 4-0 in 14 appearances with a 1.82 ERA. Rhoades made his Triple-A debut tossing two and one-third innings of relief, giving up three hits and a run. He earned his first win on May 23 in the league against the Albuquerque Isotopes, affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.
The former Redbirds played together at Illinois State from 2012-2014. In that time the team went 108-51. Stewart finished at Illinois State with a 3-2 record with a 2.60 ERA. Rhoades ended his Redbirds career with a 12-9 record with a 2.76 ERA. Stewart was selected in the sixth round with the 189th pick to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Meanwhile, Rhoades was selected in the fourth round with the 119 pick to the Los Angeles Angels.
