CHEMNITZ, Germany - Elijah Clarance and the Swedish U20 National Team fell to No. 4 World Ranked Lithuania squad on Thursday afternoon by a 90-85 final score. Clarance scored a game-high 25 points with five rebounds, five steals, and three assists.
Clarance's five steals in the game are tied for the most in a single game in the FIBA tournament this season, along with Enzo Etienne Goudou of France, who also had five steals against Croatia on July 14. The 25 points are the second-most this tournament for the rising Illinois State sophomore, as he also scored 27 points against Serbia on the 16th. His total against Serbia is the fifth-highest scoring game in the tournament this year, while his most recent 25 points against Lithuania is tied for the ninth-highest total.
He made 11-of-20 shots from the field against Lithuania, and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. He also pulled down a team-high-tying five rebounds, and tied for the team high with three assists. Through his five games, Clarance is averaging a FIBA U20 Tournament-High 21.8 points per game - and is the only player in the tournament averaging over 20 points per game. He is also leading Sweden in rebounds per game (6.0 - 16th-best in the tournament), assists per game (3.2 - 18th-best in the tournament), and steals per game (2.0 - 5th-best in the tournament).
Sweden has tomorrow (Friday) off as a rest day, before returning to action on Saturday morning at 6:30 a.m. CT (1:30 p.m. local time) against the losing country between this afternoon's match-up of Montenegro and Romania.
