Volleyball’s Ali Line Awarded Prestigious Bone Scholarship

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State volleyball student-athlete Ali Line has been selected as a Robert G. Bone Scholar for the upcoming 2018-19 academic year.

Line becomes the third Redbird student-athlete in two years, and just the third since the 2011-12 academic year, to be named a Bone Scholar. The Bone Scholarship is the top undergraduate honor bestowed at Illinois State, and is reserved for only the top 14 rising seniors.

"It is an incredible honor to be selected as a Bone Scholar," Line commented. "I could not be happier to represent Illinois State volleyball, along with the Mennonite College of Nursing. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be a student-athlete while studying nursing. It is an awesome feeling to be recognized for my hard work in both."

The Bargersville, Indiana, native was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in 2015, while being selected to the All-MVC First Team. A nursing major, Line has maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average and is a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team member. She has also garnered the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award each of her three seasons, while earning a spot on the MVC and AFNI Honor Rolls in every possible semester.

"Ali (Line) is one of the most intelligent, driven and compassionate women I have coached," head volleyball coach Leah Johnson shared. "She has a contagious optimism and personal work ethic that instills trust and positive change in those around her. We are very proud of her selection as a Bone Scholar."

Line is the 25th Illinois State student-athlete to earn the scholarship named in honor of the late Illinois State University President Robert G. Bone. The Karin L. Bone Athletics Study Center, which supports the academic endeavors of all Illinois State student-athletes, is named in honor of the late Illinois State University First Lady.

Bone Scholars are students who combine broad and excellent academic achievement with campus and community engagement, while displaying outstanding qualities of character and leadership.

Line is the fourth Illinois State volleyball player to receive the Bone Scholarship and the first since Erin Lindsey earned it for the 2009-10 academic year.
