AKRON, Ohio – The Redbirds are back after a week off as they travel to Akron, Ohio to play in the Firestone Invitational. The tournament will be played from Monday, Oct. 1 to Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Format:Â The teams will play 36 holes, starting with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. EST, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday.

History at the Event: This will be Illinois State's ninth consecutive year at the Firestone Invitational. The Redbirds had found some success the past couple of outings at this tournament, placing first of 16 in fall of 2017 and placing second of 16 in fall of 2016.
About the Course: The North Course of the Firestone Country Club opened in 1969 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. The course is noted for the scenic beauty for the lakes and streams that are adjacent to the course. It is one of four total courses at the country club.
Last Time Out: Illinois State placed second out of 17 teams at the Ram Masters Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo. Sept. 17 to Sept. 18. Three players from Illinois State finished in the top 15, with junior David Perkins leading the Redbirds in sixth place out of 96 individual golfers. Trent Wallace and Joel Durnford both tied for 11thindividually.Â
Next Time Out: The Redbirds return in two weeks in Kettering, Ohio when they take part in the Dayton Invitational on Monday, Oct. 15.
