ST. LOUIS – Illinois State's student-athletes Kierston Farley-Sepe and Caroline Leceour have been named Missouri Valley Conference's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday.
Farley-Sepe had a record-breaking weekend, not only scoring first in all three of her events, but breaking the 50-yard butterfly record for Horton Pool at Illinois State for the first time since 2014. Breaking the pool record of 25.95, Farley-Sepe clocked a time of 25.85. Placing first in her other two events, the 200-yard medley relay with a split of 27.25 for a final time of 1:47.53, and the 50-yard freestyle turning in a time of 24.64.
"Kierston has been training and swimming very well the past few weeks," said head swimming coach Scott Cameron. "She continues to get faster and make improvements that are showing in each of her performances. I know that she will continue to get better as we build into conference championship meet next month."
Leceour had a triumphant weekend on the boards at Illinois State's dual against Davenport. Placing first in both diving events, Leceour earned 18 points for the Redbirds during this dual. In the three-meter diving event Leceour scored 272.55, though her one-meter diving event stole the show when the student-athlete earned a score of 300.52.
"Coming off the training trip, her scores showed evidence that she is in a very good spot moving into the most important period of our season," said head diving coach Phil Hoffmann. "She performed well and I believe that she is only going to improve each week."
The Illinois State swimming and diving teams will be traveling to Iowa next weekend to compete in a pair of meets at Iowa State and UNI on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
