NORMAL, Ill. - In recognition of their support of the Weisbecker Scholarship Fund (WSF) and Illinois State Athletics, Dave and Jane Kruger have been named the recipients of the 2019 Joseph F. Warner Golden Redbird Award.
The Joseph F. Warner Golden Redbird Award is the highest honor bestowed to a donor by the Illinois State Athletics Department and recognizes individuals for dedication and loyal support of the Weisbecker Scholarship Fund and Illinois State Athletics through exemplary service, leadership and financial support. It was renamed in 2003 after the death of Joe, a WSF and Twin Cities leader, who perished in a plane crash.
The Krugers were presented with the annual honor at halftime of the men's basketball game against Indiana State by Illinois State Director of Athletics Larry Lyons and Rose Stadel, widow of the late Joseph Warner.
"It is truly an honor to present the Joseph F. Warner Golden Redbird Award to Dave and Jane Kruger," Illinois State Assistant Athletics Director for Development Sean Johnson said. "Dave and Jane are both incredible people who have a passion for the Redbirds and they show that with their generosity, loyalty, and support of ISU Athletics and Redbird student-athletes. While recognition has never been a driving force for the Krugers, their actions exemplify everything this award represents. We're proud to have Dave and Jane as Redbird fans and donors and can't thank them enough for their commitment to Illinois State Athletics."
Dave and Jane Kruger have been dedicated supporters of the Weisbecker Scholarship Fund for over 35 years. In addition to decades of season ticket purchases for multiple sports and generous annual contributions to the WSF, Dave and Jane have also contributed to various facility enhancements and campaigns through the years. They continue to follow the Redbirds on the road throughout their travels and always wear red and white as they cheer on the 'Birds.
