Redbirds Primed for Three-Day Purdue Invite

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State swimming and diving team will compete for the final time during the 2019 calendar year, when it embarks to head coach Caitlin Hamilton's alma mater to battle in the Purdue Invite on Nov. 21-23.

Scouting the Redbirds

Illinois State most recently hosted Missouri Valley Conference foe Indiana State at Horton Pool on Nov. 9, falling by a final score of 181-119. The Redbirds were led by in the pool by Jensen Keck and Kierston Farley-Sepe, who each won their individual events, and Caroline Lecoeur on the boards, who swept the 1- and 3-meter diving events. The Lyons, France, native was recognized as the Valley's Diver of the Week for the second time this season on Nov. 12 for her performance against the Sycamores. Illinois State opened their 2019-20 season with an impressive 182-97 victory over Butler and will start the 2020 calendar year at a tri-meet in Florida against FGCU, Liberty and Tulane on Jan. 4.

Scouting the Field

A total of nine teams, including the Redbirds, will be participating at the three-day Purdue Invite. Illinois State is one of three women-only programs competing, while the Navy is just sending its men's team to this event. Additionally, Navy's seniors will learn their service assignments on Thursday after the prelims. There could be as many as 40 countries represented at the Invite, including France, Botswana, Egypt, Kenya, Serbia and Ukraine.

Schedule of Events

  • Thursday:
    • 9 a.m. CT (prelims) – 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, 3-meter diving
      • Finals begin at 5 p.m. CT (includes 400-yard medley relay)
  • Friday:
    • 9 a.m. CT (prelims) – 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, 1-meter diving
      • Finals begin at 5 p.m. CT (includes 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle)
  • Saturday:
    • 9 a.m. CT (prelims) – 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, platform diving, 1650-yard freestyle
      • Finals begin at 5 p.m. CT (includes 400-yard freestyle)
