NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State head coach Dan Muller has announced the signing of current high school senior Howard Fleming to a National Letter of Intent to compete for Illinois State starting in the 2020-21 basketball season.
Fleming is a 6-5 point guard who is attending Louisville Male High School. Last season Fleming averaged 12.3 points and 6.7 rebounds for a team that finished 22-10. He is currently rated by NextUpRecruits.com as the fourth-best recruit in the state of Kentucky for the 2020 season.
"Howard is a 6-5 athletic point guard and competitor who can also play off the ball and is an incredibly gifted passer," said Muller. "He has had a lot of success for a terrific program at Male HS in Louisville playing under Coach Tim Haworth. Unfortunately, Howard tore his labrum a couple weeks ago and will be out until after the new year, but he will be ready to finish his HS career strong as he prepares to join us. We could not be more excited about Howard joining our program and representing Illinois State for his college career."
Last season Fleming came into the season ranked as the 21st best player in the state and was named to the Louisville Courier Journal Preseason All-Metro Team. As a sophomore Fleming averaged 10.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Illinois State is currently 2-1 in the 2019-20 season and will face off against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Friday, Nov. 22 in the opening round of the Paradise Jam, hosted in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
