NORMAL, Ill. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced on Tuesday that Redbird volleyball student-athlete Stef Jankiewicz has earned an All-North Region Honorable Mention after a successful junior campaign. Jankiewicz's recognition marks the second-consecutive season that the setter has been honored by the organization.
"We are very proud to see Stef receive this award in back-to-back seasons," head coach Leah Johnson shared. "Her all-around game, coupled with her elite volleyball IQ, separates her from most in her position. It takes a special mentality and work ethic to stand out at the national level, which Stef has done consistently. She is a dedicated student-athlete, who leads our team and program with great integrity and grit."
Jankiewicz, a junior from Farmington Hills, Michigan, collected All-Missouri Valley Conference honors for the third-straight year in 2019, landing a spot on the first team for the second time. The setter currently ranks ninth and 25th in all of NCAA Division I in total assists (1,329) and assists per set (11.08), respectively, while finishing second in the conference in both categories. Jankiewicz has accumulated 4,079 assists in her career – moving into No. 5 all-time at Illinois State – after becoming the second-fastest setter to reach the top 10 last season.
Jankiewicz is now eligible for AVCA All-America honors.
