How it Happened

Illinois State came out firing on all cylinders, scoring the first seven points of the game on a jumper by Keith Fisher III, a three-pointer from Zach Copeland, and a jumper by DJ Horne; however, TCU answered back with a 9-0 run to lead 9-7. A Jaycee Hillsman three-pointer briefly regained ISU a lead at 10-9; however, eight consecutive points gave TCU an advantage they would not give up for the remainder of the half, as ISU went into the locker room trailing 39-32 at the break.

In the second half the lead ballooned to as many as 13 with 16:32 to play in the game before the Redbirds started their fight back. Trailing by 11, Illinois State went on a 14-3 run over the next four minutes to knot the game at 59 points apiece with 9:17 to play in the game on a Horne three-point basket. ISU was unable to re-take the lead with the hosts scoring the next six points, and falling by 12 in the contest.
