How It Happened
The Redbirds jumped on the board quickly with a Zach Copeland three-pointer on the first possession of the game; however, Missouri State responded with a run and took a four-point lead at 14-10 with 12:36 to play in the first half. Over the next five-plus minutes the ISU defense tightened, helping hold Missouri State scoreless while scoring 10 points of their own, pushing out to a six-point, 20-14 lead. The Redbirds would not trail again in the half, despite Missouri State knotting the score twice, as ISU took a five-point, 32-27 lead into the locker room on a Milik Yarbrough three-point basket.
Illinois State's lead grew to as many as eight in the second half at 42-34 with 14:06 to play in the game, before the Bears rallied to score eight straight and knot the score at 42. The Redbird lead once again grew, this time to seven, but Missouri State rallied and took its lone lead of the second half as the clock on the scoreboard was at all zeros.
