Quote from Coach Holm on What He Saw From the Team Today
"
They held us from scoring in all but a couple of innings for three straight games. Our pitching staff did an outstanding job of throwing up zeros, until we finally had some momentum. Our guys stayed up in the dugout even though we could not muster much. I cannot say enough how impressed I was with the way we threw the baseball today. Colton was outstanding and Gilmore did a great job of getting out of the jam and then minimizing the ninth."

Scoring Breakdown:

  • The game went scoreless into the top of the ninth inning.
  • The Redbirds got three straight singles to lead off the top of the ninth inning from Ryan Hutchinson, Joe Butler, and Tyson Hays. Gaines singled to right to score Hutchinson. Next, Huggins reached on a fielding error by the shortstop that scored Butler and Hays to make it 3-0 in favor of the 'Birds. Parola reached on a fielder's choice to score Gaines to make it 4-0. Then, Libman singled to score Huggins. Finally, Aeilts singled to left field to bring home Parola to give ISU the 6-0 lead after the top of the ninth.
  • The Bears scored three runs on two hits in the bottom of the ninth inning, but it was not enough as Illinois State defeated Central Arkansas by a final score of 6-3.
