ISU Volleyball Summer Camp Registration Now Open

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State volleyball head coach Leah Johnson announced the dates and opened registration for the 2019 summer volleyball camps on Tuesday.

Illinois State will host three camps at Horton Field House throughout the month of July. Volleyball players will have an opportunity to register for an all skills overnight camp and youth skills day clinic, while junior varsity and varsity high school programs can register for the high school team camp.

All camps are coached by current and former Redbirds, as well as the Illinois State volleyball coaching staff. Interested campers can find all the information they will need, including registration information on the summer camp website. Camps fill up quickly, so those who are interested in attending camps are encouraged to register as soon as possible to secure their spot.

ABOUT THE CAMPS

All Skills Overnight Camp (July 19-21): Campers will live like the Redbirds - eat and sleep in the Redbird dining hall and dorms. All Skills Camp is designed to teach players the fundamental skills of the game and learn how to transfer those skills to game like situations and competitions. Training and drills will be designed relative to each athlete's age and skill level. Advanced athletes will be challenged with new concepts and volleyball IQ enhancement by combining skills through challenging drills and competitions. Novice players will advance at their own rate and focus on single skill development within fun games and drills. Participants will be joined by ISU student-athletes and staff who will serve as camp coaches, as well as chaperones 24/7. ISU is named among the Top-50 safest campuses in the country.

Youth Skills Day Clinic (July 22-24): The youth skills day clinic will teach players of all ages to learn and develop the fundamental skills of volleyball with the Redbird volleyball team and coaching staff. Each day will challenge attendees with new concepts and skills as well as fun games throughout each session. Get a first-hand experience of what being a REDBIRD is all about as you interact and learn from the Illinois State volleyball players. Illinois State University youth clinics will use a variety of tools and techniques (light volleyballs, lower nets etc.) to teach the game of volleyball to all ages and skill levels. These young athletes will learn a variety of new volleyball skills, meet new friends (or have fun with friends they came with), and have a great time!

High School Team Camp (July 26-27): This is a competition based team camp for varsity and junior varsity programs – lots of learning in a fun, competitive format. This camp is designed to help each team advance their style of play and introduce or refine team concepts such as sideout offense, defensive systems, transition concepts, and the critical team serve and pass game.

Day 1: Competitive wash/mini-game drills vs. other teams. These sessions will cover various team systems, specifically different offensive and defensive systems and styles.

Day 2: Competition games and tournament style play. Ideally, teams will be able to fully apply the new or improved team play in a true game situation to jump start their training for the fall season.

Illinois State University camps and clinics are open to any and all entrants, in accordance with the NCAA legislation (limited only by number, age, grade level, and/or gender). Illinois State University formally reaffirms its commitment to the principles of equal opportunity, affirmative action and diversity.
