Quote from Coach Holm on Aeilts' Grand Slam and the Team Performance
"Joe Aeilts provided us a ton of momentum early on. Unfortunately, we did not keep that momentum very long. That was as sloppy of a game we have had this season. You won't beat the number one team in the country by playing like that."
Scoring Breakdown:
- In the first inning, Rave doubled to open up the game. Next, Parola singled through the right side to put runners at the corners. Then, Libman walked to load the bases. Aeilts swung on the first pitch and blasted a grand slam to left to put the Redbirds on top 4-0 after the top of the first inning. The Commodores responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Illinois State led Vanderbilt 4-3 after the first.
- Vanderbilt scored two runs in the third inning to take the lead 5-4 over ISU.
- The Commodores added a run in the fourth inning, and two runs in the fifth inning to increase their lead to 8-4 over the Redbirds.
