NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State defeated Missouri State Friday evening at Duffy Bass Field by a final score of 7-1. Redbirds starting pitcher Brent Headrick went six innings with a career-high 12 strikeouts in the contest. The victory improves the 'Birds record to 19-14, 3-1 MVC.

"Headrick was probably the best we have seen him all year. He went six innings with 12 strikeouts. He threw with a lot more conviction than we have seen in his other outings. That is as good as he is going to be right there. That was very impressive."
Scoring Breakdown:
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, Nick Zouras doubled to left-center to score Joe Butler to put the Redbirds up 1-0. Huggins followed up with a line drive to right-center field allowing Zouras to score. The Redbirds lead 2-0 after the inning.
- During the bottom of the sixth inning, Jack Butler grounded into a double allowing Gunner Peterson to score. Rave doubled to left field to score Huggins in the inning. Parola then drove home Rave with a single to right field. Jordan Libman concluded the scoring in the inning with a double to left center that scored Parola. ISU would increase its lead to 6-0 after six innings.
- The Bears would strike back in the top of the seventh with a RBI to the shortstop. Illinois State led Missouri State 6-1.
- Rave hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the seventh run of the game. That would conclude the scoring in the contest, as Illinois State defeated Missouri State in the series opener.
