Redbirds Fly South For Valley Series Against Dallas Baptist

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State baseball will return to action this weekend when the team heads to Dallas Baptist for its second consecutive conference series away from Duffy Bass Field. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., while first pitch on Saturday is slated for 2 p.m. The series finale on Sunday has been moved up one hour to noon.

Illinois State Redbirds (25-15, 8-1 MVC)

The Redbirds have won five games in a row, and 13 of their last 15 games including six -straight conference wins after a sweep last weekend over Southern Illinois. The Redbirds lead the conference in batting average (.323), at-bats (334), runs (68), hits (108), doubles (28), and home runs (13). The 'Birds are second in the valley in ERA (2.92).

Dallas Baptist Patriots (28-12, 6-3 MVC)

The Patriots come into the weekend on a three-game winning streak with wins over TCU and a conference series victory over Bradley. Dallas Baptist has the top two batters in conference with Luke Bandy hitting .500, and Blayne Jones .419. Meanwhile, the DBU pitching staff is ranked 13th in the nation with 10 strikeouts per nine innings, and 14th nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 2.83.

Series History

Dallas Baptist leads Illinois State in the all-time series, holding a 16-2 advantage. The Patriots won the series last season against the Redbirds in Normal with two of the three games going to extra innings.
