VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Illinois State softball team used three hits – including a pair from Emme Olson – and a complete game shutout by Morgan Day in the circle to open its final Missouri Valley Conference regular-season series with a 1-0 win at Valparaiso.

- With bases loaded and one out, back-to-back pop-ups to Allison Spence and Emme Olson helped the Redbirds escape the jam in the opening frame to keep the score leveled at zero.
- Olson knocked a two-out single to center field, scoring Shannon Felde from second base, to help ISU to a 1-0 lead in the third.
- After giving up a lead-off walk in the third inning, starting pitcher Morgan Day and the Redbird defense sat the next nine batters down to keep a 1-0 lead going into the sixth.
- Day fanned her seventh batter of the game to grab the third out of the seventh inning to help ISU improve to 9-10 in league play.
ON DECK
The Redbirds are set to close the 2019 regular season tomorrow with a twin bill against the Crusaders. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. from Valpo Softball Complex.
