Ryan Court Called Up to the Seattle Mariners

Another Illinois State baseball product has reached the big show. After nine years in the minor leagues, former Redbird standout Ryan Court was called up for his MLB debut with the Seattle Mariners earlier this afternoon. Court will be in uniform and available for tonight's game against the Detroit Tigers at T-Mobile Park.

Court has spent the majority of the 2019 season with the Tacoma Rainiers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. The Elgin, Illinois, native, is slashing .288/.396/.590 with eight doubles, 10 homeruns, and 40 RBIs on the season.

Drafted in the 23rd round (694 overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011, this is Court's first appearance in the MLB. Court has worked his way through several different organizations including the Diamondbacks, the Boston Red Sox, the Chicago Cubs and the Mariners.

An Illinois State graduate, Court received conference honors multiple times, including an All-MVC First Team nod his senior year and All-MVC Second Team honors his junior season. During his 2011 senior campaign, Court batted .323/.460/.522, belting six home runs and 35 RBIs. He also led the team in hits (63) and doubles (15) that season. Court was a member of the 2010 MVC Regular Season and Tournament Championship team who would go on to make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
