DENTON, Texas – Illinois State volleyball juniors Sydney Holt and Kaylee Martin were listed on the North Texas Invitational All-Tournament Team. This is the first career all-tournament team selection for Holt and second for Martin.
The Redbirds won the two-day event, starting the season with two-straight wins for the second-straight year under the direction of head coach Leah Johnson.
Holt turned in a team-best hitting percentage of .296 in her first season as a true middle blocker for ISU. She contributed three service aces, including two against the tournament host Mean Green, while also adding seven digs on the weekend. In ISU's season-opening win over North Texas, the Wildwood, Missouri, native registered a four-set career-high 13 kills, before finishing with 33 for the tournament. Holt's defense at the net did not go unnoticed, as she tallied 17 blocks in 12 sets played (1.42 blk/s).
Martin led the Redbirds with 42 kills, averaging 3.50 kills per set on .290 hitting at the North Texas Invitational. She added nine digs and a pair of blocks, while also contributing an assist. Martin tallied a weekend-high 16 kills in ISU's season-opening win against North Texas, while leading the ISU in the category versus Pepperdine (RV). Â

Illinois State will continue its 2019 campaign in Tulsa, Oklahoma, next weekend, when it travels to play in the ORU Invitational. The Redbirds are scheduled to face the tournament host Golden Eagles, Little Rock and Air Force at the two-day event.
