Illinois State soccer junior Abby Basler was tabbed Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Basler had a stellar weekend offensively for the Redbirds, combining for three goals and three assists to help Illinois State go 2-0 on the road against two ASUN conference opponents. On Friday, the midfielder posted her second career hat trick while also adding an assist in ISU's 5-0 win at North Florida. Basler also played a crucial part in the 3-2 comeback victory over Stetson on Sunday, assisting on both the equalizer and the game-winning goal. In all, Basler picked up nine points on the weekend.
The Redbirds have earned the Offensive Player of the Week honor every week this season, with senior Kate Del Fava holding the title the first three weeks of the year and junior Natalie Vaughn-Low earning it last week. This is the fifth straight week Illinois State has maintained the title, tied for the longest-streak a program has owned the MVC Offensive Player of the Week honor consecutively. Drake also had a five-week reign in 2004, holding the title from Oct. 4 – Nov. 1.
This is the second time Basler has been named the MVC Offensive Player of the Week in her career.
