BURLINGTON, Iowa – After two rounds at the 2019 MVC Preview the Illinois State Redbirds stand in a tie for eighth place of the 15 teams in the field with 18 holes to play tomorrow morning.
Illinois State carded rounds of 317 and 327 over the 36 holes, and the two-round total of 644 is tied with Bradley and Indiana State. Host UNI leads the field after the first day with a 621 while Missouri State (628), Drake (629), Southern Illinois (630), Butler (638), Green Bay (641), and Creighton (642) comprise the seven teams directly ahead of ISU.
Leading the way for ISU on the day was Paige Seiser, playing as an individual, and whose two-round score of 156 is tied for the ninth-best individual score in the tournament at 12 strokes over par. Seiser carded a seven-over 79, including a pair of birdies over the first 18 holes, before coming back with a five-over 77 in which she carded 13 pars.
Becca Black is not far behind and is tied for 11th overall with a 13-over 157 over the first two rounds. Black's first round of 75 saw her card a trio of birdies and 10 pars. On the second half of the day she had a birdie and 11 pars en route to the 10-over 82.
Junior Tatum King opened the first round with 11 pars en route to a nine-over 81. She followed that with a pair of birdies in the second round and shot a seven-over 79. Between her two rounds, her 16-over 160 has her in a tie of 29th overall.
Emma Sutton's two-round score of 162 has her tied for 41st overall. She had a birdie and 10 pars over the opening 18 holes en route to her opening-round 80. She followed with 10 more pars over the final 18 holes for a 10-over 82 and her 18-over two-round score.
Jasmine Yi carded rounds of 81 and 85 over the first day of the tournament, and her 22-over 166 has her tied for 55th overall. Rounding out the five Redbirds on the scoring group is freshman Ali Schrock, who is tied for 70th after rounds of 86 (+14) and 84 (+12) to start the tournament.
The squad returns to action on Tuesday morning starting with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
