TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State scored the first eight points of the game and never trailed despite 18 points from freshman DJ Horne, as the Redbirds fell 65-52 on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
The Sycamores used a pair of three-pointers and a paint jumper to quickly jump ahead 8-0 in the contest. The Redbirds answered with five straight points on a free throw from Jaycee Hillsman and jumpers from Horne and Matt Chastain to close the gap to 8-5. The margin remained three at 20-17 with 5:24 to play in the half; however, Indiana State 9-4 over the rest of the half to take a 29-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Horne cut the margin on the first possession of the second half with a three-pointer, but Indiana State followed with a 9-2 run to push the hosts ahead by 11 points. The Redbirds were unable to cut the gap to single digits the rest of the way in the 13-point loss.
