NORMAL, Ill. – Second-year head coach Caitlin Hamilton announced on Monday that the 2021 Redbird swimming and diving schedule has been finalized.
"It is a sense of relief to finally have our meet schedule for the upcoming season," Hamilton shared. "Throughout the summer and fall, the MVC head coaches met and came up with a revised plan that put our student-athletes' safety at the forefront, while also allowing us to have a competitive, championship-focused season. We are grateful to have meets to look forward to and prepare for."
The Redbird divers will kick off the season for ISU, traveling to the annual UIC Diving Invitational in Chicago on Jan. 30. Illinois State will make its home debut on Feb. 13 with a dual against Valparaiso, before hitting the road for a dual meet at UNI (Feb. 27). A three-week hiatus will allow the Redbirds time to gear up for a double dual versus conference rivals Southern Illinois and Evansville on March 19 in Carbondale, Illinois, before wrapping up the regular season against Little Rock (March 27).
Illinois State's meet against the Trojans will be unique in a sense that it will be a virtual meet. The Redbirds will be competing at Horton Pool, while Little Rock will be at its home facility. Events will have strict start times, while meet officiants will send results back-and-forth with Little Rock through the teams' scoring systems.
The 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Championships are set for April 14-16 in Carbondale, Illinois. More information regarding the championship will be released by the league office at a later date.
In accordance with state and local guidelines, fans are not allowed to be in attendance at Horton Pool for meets this spring. If guidelines change, we will update everyone when that happens.
