MONROE, La. – Illinois State (3-5) started off a three-game series at Louisiana-Monroe with a 6-3 victory over the Warhawks (7-2) Friday evening.

Scoring Breakdown:
- Illinois State started off the scoring with two runs on two hits in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead
- A solo home run by Braedon Blackford (2) in the third made it 3-0 in favor of the Redbirds.
- Louisiana-Monroe got on the board in the bottom half of the third inning with two unearned runs.
- The Redbirds added a run off of a Jeremy Gaines sacrifice fly in the fourth.
- Joe Butler knocked in an insurance run with an RBI single in the fifth inning to give the Redbirds a 5-2 lead.
- ULM scored its final run in the fifth inning on an infield single and throwing error by Butler.
- Ryan Cermak laced his third extra base hit of the game for a solo home run in the sixth to make it 6-3.
