ST. LOUIS – Behind a weekend in which he averaged a team-best 17.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, Illinois State junior forward Keith Fisher III was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.
It is the first career MVC honor for Fisher, who made 13-of-25 of his shots from the field (52%), 8-of-10 from the free throw line, and his only three-point attempt.
In the week-opening win over Evansville he scored 16 points with nine rebounds. He made 6-of-14 shots from the field against the Aces and was 4-of-5 from the free throw line. On the week finale against Valparaiso he scored a game-high 19 points, making 7-of-11 from the field, 1-of-1 from beyond the arc, and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe, and added two assists.
This season Fisher is averaging 8.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, while making 47.2 percent of his shots from the field.
Illinois State will travel to Springfield, Missouri, to take on the Missouri State Bears on Wednesday, Feb. 5, before returning home to battle the Indiana State Sycamores on Saturday, Feb. 8.
