BATON ROUGE, La. – The Illinois State softball team (12-11) ended its five-game stint in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with a 7-3 win at Southern University (4-10) on Monday afternoon.
Morgan Day tossed double-digit strikeouts for the seventh time this season in a complete-game effort, while Kaili Chval and Taylor Vanderpool each turned in multi-hit performances at the plate.

BY THE NUMBERS / KEY INNINGS
- The Jags jumped on the board in the opening frame, scratching a pair of unearned runs across.
- Andrea Coursey knocked a one-out double to right field, before Kadi Borries went yard for the third time this season to knot the game at two-all.
- Illinois State extended its lead in the third, as three-straight hits from Vanderpool, Emme Olson and Chval, helped kick-start the Redbirds' offense in the inning and push ISU to a 5-2 advantage.
- Southern responded in the bottom of the inning, lifting a two-out homer over the wall.
- Two strikeouts from Morgan Day highlighted a 1-2-3 inning for the Redbirds in the fourth, before ISU jumped out in front, 7-3, in the fifth on a trio of hits from three different Redbirds and sacrifice fly from Brittni LaFountaine.
- Day recorded her 10th and 11th strikeout in the final frame, securing her seventh win in the circle this season.
