NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State Basketball Coaches Shows presented by Bud Light, featuring Illinois State men's basketball head coach Dan Muller and women's basketball head coach Kristen Gillespie will air tonight. Fans can listen on WJBC 1230-AM or on GoRedbirds.com, as Muller and Gillespie recap last week's games and preview upcoming match-ups.
The Kristen Gillespie Show, hosted by Greg Halbleib, starts tonight at 6 p.m. Gillespie will be joined by redshirt freshman guard Maya Wong. Wong recorded five points in Thursday's overtime win over Valparaiso at home, also grabbing two rebounds and an assist. She went on to record nine points in Friday's rematch with the Crusaders, going a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe and adding three boards, two assists and two steals. The Normal, Ill. native is averaging 7.1 points per game in her first season on the court for the Redbirds, shooting 48.3% (14-of-29) from the floor and 50% (4-of-8) from long range.
The women's basketball team (6-3, 3-3 MVC) continues its slate of home games this week as they host Evansville on Thursday and Friday at Redbird Arena. Tip-off for both games is set for 4 p.m.
The Dan Muller Show follows at 7 p.m., hosted by Dick Leudke. Muller will be joined by redshirt junior guard Dedric Boyd. Boyd went off for a game-high 19 points in Sunday's game versus Indiana State, making 6-of-10 shots from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. The Brownsville, Tenn. native is averaging 9.1 points per game and shooting 50.0% (36-of-72) from the floor on the year.
It's a busy week ahead for the men's basketball team (4-8, 1-5 MVC), who hosts 1-74 rival Bradley on Wednesday and Valpo on Saturday and Sunday at Redbird Arena. Tip-off versus Bradley on Wednesday is set for 8 p.m. with the weekend series with the Crusaders scheduled for 5 p.m. starts.
